"The night was almost over and we were on our way to watch the sunrise at the sea shore. Dawn was near and first rays of light had started to pain the city with its blues, whites and silvers. There were twelve of us and I don't remember whose idea it was to go skinny dipping, but suddenly we were all standing there naked, ready to jump into the water."

Go: The train ride from Oslo is spectacular and takes about seven hours. Direct flights are also available from major European cities.
Stay: Several options are available on Airbnb for around $100/night, including a house on the sea. For a little more money, try To Søstre ("Two Sisters), a charming family-run guesthouse in Bergen's historic center.
Eat: On Thursdays, go to Pingvinen or Bjellands Kjøkken for raspeballer, local potato dumplings usually served with bacon, sausage, salted sheep's meat, melted butter, and mashed rutabaga. Also, don't miss Bergen's Toget Fish Market for prawn baguettes, fish cakes, and local caviar.
Drink: Stop in at the Altona Vinbar for good music in underground rooms dating back to the 16th century.
